Sofia Vergara Makes Rape Joke on The View

Colombian-born actress Sofia Vergara gets plenty of laughs as Ed O’Neill’s wife on ABC’s new hit comedy Modern Family. Yesterday on The View, though?

Well, let’s just say rape jokes aren’t always knee-slappers.

Trying to make light of her youthful appearance, the 37-year-old Sofia reacted in a puzzling way when the panel was surprised that she has an 18-year-old son.

Sherri Shepherd said, as viewers saw a photo of Sofia and son Manolo: “You’re a single mom of a teenage son, who’s 18?! You have him when you were 12?’

Sofia Vergara’s response: “Thirteen. I was raped.”

Crickets.

It takes a lot to silence the women of The View. Kudos, Sofia Vergara.

Barbara Walters in particular looked shocked as Sofia made the remark, and even Whoopi Goldberg, who’s rarely fazed, appeared surprised at the comment.

Gasps could also be heard from the studio audience.

Interestingly, Whoopi came under fire last month for saying on The View that Roman Polanski’s alleged rape of a 13-year-old in 1977 was not “rape rape.”
