Queen's Birthday Honours 2021: Full list revealed

THE Queen's birthday honours celebrates the achievements and service of people across the UK, from all walks of life.

Football stars Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson are among the famous faces that have been awarded MBEs in 2021.

Who has been given an award on Queen's Birthday Honours List 2021?

Famous faces across the world of sport and acting have been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in 2021.

The list also recognises people for their achievements and services in all walks of life across the UK

Here's some of the famous faces to win awards this year:

Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling, 26, is recognised for his anti-racism work as well as setting up a foundation to help deprived children.

The England and Manchester City star followed in the footsteps of Marcus Rashford and rapper Stormzy by launching a foundation to help disadvantaged kids.

In December 2019 he was awarded with the Integrity and Impact gong at the BT Sport Industry Awards for using social media to speak out on a range of issues, such as highlighting the racist abuse he has received.

In May 2021, he suffered racist abuse on Instagram after Man City’s Champions League final loss to Chelsea.

Jordan Henderson

Jordan Henderson, 30, has been recognised for helping to raise millions for the NHS during the Covid pandemic via the Players Together fund.

The fund saw 20 Premier League captains donate cash to the NHS staff, volunteers and patients at the height of the coronavirus pandemic last year.

He has worked also with Man City's ­Sterling on anti-discrimination initiatives.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is said to have signed off on both their awards.

A Whitehall source told The Sun: “This is great news on the eve of the Euros.

“Raheem and Jordan have been role models in the truest sense in the past few years.

“They’ve stood up and been counted, placing themselves in the firing line for what they believe in.

“Together with Marcus Rashford, they’ve proved there is a different side to a lot of footballers.

“They are obvious choices when you look at their achievements.

“Boris gave the move his resounding approval. He has admired both for some time.”

Prue Leith

Bake Off judge Prue Leith, 81 is to become a dame for services to food, broadcasting and charity.

The restaurateur, cookery writer and television presenter has been recognised around the world for her contributions to the cooking world.

She was appointed as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1989, and was awarded as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2010.

Before becoming a judge on Channel 4's The Great British Bake Off in 2017, she was a judge on Great British Menu for a whopping 10 years (2006-2016) while also juggling the same position on My Kitchen Rules between 2014 and 2017.

Prue has also been a regular on ITV's This Morning where she's used the platform to educate people on a healthier diet and yummy cooking recipes.

Lulu

Lulu has been recognised for her contributions to music and raising money for charity.

The 72-year-old singer is one of Britain's most celebrated singers.

At the age of 15 she was signed by Decca Records and released her first single Shout, which reached number seven in the UK charts.

Lulu was crowned the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1969 with the song Boom Bang-A-Bang.

In 2000 she was awarded an OBE by the Queen.

Robert Rinder

Sun legal expert Judge Robert Rinder, 43, is awarded an MBE for his work educating the nation about the Holocaust, alongside his mum Angela Cohen. 

He said: “I have a kind of nuclear-powered sense of impostor syndrome. It has been dialled up even more in receiving this honour, made more beautiful because my mum is getting one on the same day.”

Since 2014, he has been the infamous judge in the reality courtroom series Judge Rinder.

In 2016, he presented the series, Judge Rinder's Crime Stories, which reconstructed real crimes events.

On August 13, 2018, Judge Rinder starred on Who Do You Think You Are, which explores his Jewish heritage back to the Holocaust.

Alison Moyet

Singer Alison Moyet, is recognised for her services in music.

The 60-year-old whose 1984 debut solo album was called Alf, has been made an MBE.

She said: “A remarkable, happy-making 60th birthday surprise for me. Basildon’s Alf with extra initials. I didn’t see that coming.” 

Alison is famed for her deep, soulful voice and self-penned lyrics.

Sue Barker

Sue Barker is recognised for her service in sport, broadcasting and charity.

The 56-year-old is one of the nation's best-loved TV and sports presenters is handed a CBE.

Sue was the presenter of A Question Of Sport for 23 years after taking over from David Coleman in 1997.

She also presented the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards from 1994 until 2012.

Ruth Wilson

Actress Ruth Wilson is recognised for her services in drama.

The His Dark Materials actress Ruth Wilson, 39, receives an MBE.

She is best known for her role in BBC's Jane Eyre and the portrayal of Alison Bailey on The Affair for which she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress.

Arlene Phillips

Strictly judge Arlene Phillips, 78, is recognised for her services to dance and charity.

She is awarded a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

The choreographer worked on West End and Broadway musicals, Hollywood movies such as 1982’s Annie and a string of pop videos, including Duran Duran’s The Wild Boys.

Arlene, who was given a CBE in 2013, is an ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society and a keen supporter of Animal Aid, Compassion in World Farming and PETA.

Jonathan Pryce

Jonathan Pryce is being recognised for his service to drama and charity.

The 74-year-old Bond villain who is set to portray the Duke of Edinburgh in the final two seasons of Netflix’s royal drama The Crown, has  been given a knighthood.

He played the High Sparrow in Game of Thrones in 2015, and Sir Stuart Strange in BBC1’s Taboo in 2017.

His role as the future Pope Francis in 2019 Netflix film The Two Popes earned him a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award nomination.

How are they chosen?

Anyone can nominate someone for an honour on the gov.uk website.

However, the person being nominated must be actively involved in what you are nominating them for.

Once someone is nominated, the honours committee will review the person and check they are suitable for receiving an award.

This may include checks by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

Reviews are carried out by various government departments.

There are a number of different categories of awards given out, each recognising a particular service to the Queen and country.
