Mum-to-be transforms drab kitchen with Frenchic paint & B&Q bargains - and it looks amazing

THEY say your kitchen is the heart of the home - but there's no denying that they're one of the most expensive rooms to renovate.

Well if you fancy taking on a home improvement project in time for Christmas, then you might want to take notes from savvy mum-to-be Dearbhaile Cooke.

The 29-year-old - who is currently nine months pregnant - has revealed how she transformed her drab kitchen using Frenchic paint and by adding a trendy new sink from B&Q.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the mum-to-be explained how the kitchen makeover helped "pass the time" during her final weeks of pregnancy.

Rather than replacing the dated wooden cabinets, Dearbhaile decided to paint over the pine using two tins of Frenchic's Blackjack paint - which cost £54.

The DIY fan had previously used the paint to decorate her brother's kitchen and knew she wanted to have it somewhere in her own home.

She said: "I loved the paint and colour from then. As I had four weeks to my due date I thought it would help pass the end of the pregnancy for me and make these last weeks go quicker; it certainly did! Some days I was there from 11am to 8pm that night."

Once she'd given the cupboards a new lease of life, Dearbhaile then spray-painted the handles to give them a trendy chrome sheen.

"We also bought a new sink and taps for £120 from B&Q, and the lights were from Homebase," the mum explained. "The dining area one was £120 and the kitchen one £40."

Rather than having a whole new kitchen fitted, Dearbhaile and her fiancé Gary sourced a new marble-effect worktop from a local Belfast supplier for £200.

Meanwhile, the white subway tiles in the kitchen set them back a further £120.

Delighted with how her kitchen is now looking, the mum then posted pictures of the transformation on the Facebook group The Frenchic Fan Forum.

And needless to say, other DIY fans were blown away by her efforts.

One replied: "That's some serious nesting! Enjoy and put your feet up now."

"I'm moving into your kitchen," another joked: "Non-negotiable!"

A third wrote: "Wow it looks amazing."
