DRIVERS are just realising a cheap hack to stop condensation in their cars - and you could already have the items at home.

Misted windscreens are a common problem in the winter and can be very dangerous for drivers.

As the temperatures plummet and weather conditions worsen, it's crucial for motorists to be aware of how to get rid of condensation on their car windows.

And Dave Hax has taken to TikTok to share a tutorial for 'No more condensation in your car'.

In the video, he said: "You can stop your car windows from misting up with condensation on the inside by taking a pair of socks and filling them with silica cat litter."

Silica cat litter is extremely porous and effective at absorbing moisture around it.

This should prevent water vapour in the air from condensing on the windscreen.

You can pick up Sanicat Silica Gel Diamonds Litter in 5L bags for just £4.99 from B&M.

Dave explained: "To help fill it I'm stretching it open over a roll of tape like this, then tip in the cat litter.

"Once it's filled up to the ankle, I removed the tape and tied a knot in it.

"Then to make it all a bit stronger, I'm tucking it into the other sock."

"You can put it on the dashboard or hide it under the passenger seat and it'll slowly absorb any moisture in the car," he added.

Most drivers know the importance of having a clear windscreen and windows before heading off in their car.

Driving with your vision obscured could land you with a hefty fine - whether it's foggy, icy or just plain dirty.

The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 and the Highway Code state that "windscreens and windows MUST be kept clean and free from obstructions to vision".

Failure to clear windows properly can lead to a fixed penalty fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points.

If the offence is committed within three years of a previous conviction for the same offence it could even lead to disqualification.

Another idea to de-fog your windows is to buy a cheap dehumidifier, if you pop down to Asda you can snag a dehumidifier for just £1.25 each - with users saying "it works".

Meanwhile, a TikTok user working in the world's coldest country has recently advised motorists about the 5 items they need in their car to keep them safe.
