A CAFE cooked up a sexism row by offering women and men separate afternoon teas.

Steak, pork pie and chips feature on its gentlemen’s version.

The ladies’ one includes a mini prawn cocktail and finger sandwiches.

Stunned shopper Sarah Whitehead asked: “Why are there gendered afternoon teas? I couldn’t imagine this still being a thing in 2021. And then to see the ladies’ was all ‘lighter’ options made it even worse.”

A customer called Hannah simply branded the separate teas: “Bonkers.”

The menus are at Wickentree Restaurant in the Housing Units department store in Oldham, Gtr Manchester.

The men’s boasts chicken and chorizo club sandwich, pork pie, an open steak sandwich and mini fish and chips. Ladies are offered chicken and bacon Caesar wrap, cream cheese and cucumber finger sandwiches, individual quiche and mini prawn cocktail.

The £21.95-per-person menus both include Victoria sponge, a scone, clotted cream and preserve, tea or coffee.

On social media, another shopper, questioned: “Erm, why do men get the pork pie and steak?”

Poster Graham joked: “Delicate lady constitutions obviously can’t deal with rugged, manly food like a steak sandwich or mini fish and chips.”

Housing Units was approached for comment.
